Why We Haven’t Cut Our Son’s Hair

This post is sponsored by Unilever, but all opinions are my own.

Long hair, don’t care! 🙂 If you’ve been around here long enough, you know that Baby B and I are both blessed with long hair genes. Actually, all three Dubs Brudders were born with full heads of hair at birth. It never shed and my two older boys had their first hair cuts at just six months old.

Why We Haven’t Cut Our Son’s Hair

Over the years, I’ve been asked why we haven’t cut our son’s hair. The simple answer is that Baby B is not a fan of haircuts. And I’m not a fan of holding him while he screams and cries through it all.

He’s actually had two haircuts in his three years of life. The first at around 18 months and the second at two years old. Both times, the experience was not good for either of us.

Now that he’s verbal, he’s clearly expressed to us for the last year+ that he’s not interested in cutting his hair like his big brothers/daddy. He just likes long hair and likes that he matches his umma.

So here we are, the two long haired people in our family. He is definitely due for a trim, but with salons being closed for most of this year, it’s just fallen off our radar.

Why We Haven't Cut Our Son's Hair

One of these days, I may take him into my hair stylist to work some magic. But, for now, we’ll enjoy it as long as that’s what he wants to do with it. I’m a firm believer in giving our kids autonomy over their bodies even at a young age. So, we’re going with it until he tells us otherwise.

Our Favorite Shampoos + Conditioners for the Whole Family

I’ve been using the Love Beauty and Planet Shampoo and Conditioner for the last year and it is so good. It was a recommendation by several Instagram followers and it didn’t disappoint. The clean-based products have been so good for my hair wash schedule. Especially for my scalp. I use it 2-3 a week and the Murumuru Butter & Rose scent makes me feel salon fresh every time.

You guys know David’s every day shampoo and conditioner in one is the Dove Men+Care Shampoo & Conditioner in the Fresh Scent.

As for the Dubs Brudders, we love the Suave Kids 3-in-1 Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash. They’re always in and out of the shower/bath these days and I need something that gets the job done. The watermelon scent is perfect for the boys.
