We had an explosive fight.

One of those “can’t take it back” type of fights.

It doesn’t happen often, but when they inevitably do, we both get caught up in the moment. And say things we don’t mean. It’s just to be mean. To hurt because we’re hurting.

We’ve gotten better over the years. Evolving as individuals and as partners. But, it still happens. And promising that it won’t happen again, isn’t something I can swear by, if I’m being honest.

Sometimes, the smallest things ignite big, fiery messes, that neither of us know how to put out right away.

Sometimes, our hearts need to heal and our minds need to assess.

But as the flames die down, we always start to see and feel clearly. “What did we even fight about?” “Who loves each other more?” The “I’m so sorry”s and “I love you so much”es and “I’ll be better”s that start to water down the heat of resentment and anger.

In my humble opinion, this is what a real marriage looks like. A constant work in progress that needs effort every day. Two people working hard to preserve the foundation of what they’ve built together over the years.

Growing, evolving, stretching ourselves to be the best we can be and doing it again and again. For ourselves, for each other.

Despite the trials we’ve been through and the tribulations headed our way in the future. I’m grateful that our love is an inextinguishable flame that guides us through the darkest of moments.

You are my safe haven.

You will always be my home.
