Are you getting ready to move? While it might seem daunting, organizing your home can be simplified with just a few steps. My number one tip is to organize efficiently, both getting your house ‘show ready’ (if you need to sell) and to keep it organized while still living in your home. If you need some simple tips for organizing your home for moving or for getting it ‘show ready,’ read below for some helpful information!
Six Tips to Organize Your Home for Moving
This post is sponsored by Bed Bath & Beyond. As always, all content and opinions are my own.
We are in the thick of cleaning and organizing our current home for sale. Our new home is projected to be completed in April, so the clock is ticking! As with all things, I’m trying to simplify the home organization process.
We’ve lived in our house for nearly ten years. And in that time, we have amassed so many things between the (now) five of us. So many baby and kid things! Here are six tips to organize your home for moving.

Schedule & Organize Room by Room
First things first, if you’re anything like me, you are short on time with too many things to do on your to-do list. The only way to efficiently and practically tackle home organization (in prep for a big move) is to have a [loose] schedule and a plan to organize room by room.
Our weekends are usually the only “free” time we have to get into freak out and clean mode. We started with the cleanest and least cluttered room(s) of the house and have slowly made it through our entire house.
We made a few trips to our local Bed Bath & Beyond to pick up some products that helped to make the organization process much simpler. From storage units, to hangers, simple home decor and other products, Bed Bath & Beyond is our go to for picking up all of the things for our big move.
They also offer a lot of tips and hacks for home organization that you can read all about here.

Utilize All the Storage Spots
When it comes to storage, there isn’t enough of it, ever. With three little boys, the amount of basic necessities like bed sheets, clothes, and towels is sheer chaos.
I don’t know why, but I never used under bed storage or useful products like blanket storage bags to utilize all the storage spots in our house.
These under bed storage and blanket storage bags from Bed Bath & Beyond are perfect for utilizing extra storage spots throughout your home.

I also like using storage boxes and baskets like these to utilize all of the extra space in every closet in our home. It helps to keep things clean and put away, while maximizing all open spaces as needed to store things.
We use them in all of our closets, our laundry room and also in our mudroom area to store extra clothes, accessories, cleaning supplies, etc.

Declutter Unused Items
The best part of our big move is that it’s forced us to go through all of the things in our house. D and I both jumped on the wagon of de-cluttering this year. Getting rid of unused and old items is SO cathartic.
De-cluttering helps to ease the packing process as well. In addition to donating or throwing away unused or old items, we started packing away things that we know we won’t need until we are in our new home.
From seasonal clothing and shoes to small kitchen appliances, we have boxes filled with things that are ready for the big move.

Use Multi-functional Storage

D found this commercial grade dual-garment rack in the closet organization section at Bed Bath & Beyond.
It’s the perfect storage for clothing! It serves dual purposes because it frees up our closet and leaves it in show ready condition. And also simplifies part of the big move because we plan on moving the entire rack as is to our new house. No packing and unpacking of clothing necessary.

Add Simple Decor

Bed Bath & Beyond has an array of home decor items. Simple pieces like a serving tray, candles, and fake flowers can easily spruce up a room and makes it look warm and inviting for potential buyers.
It’s also easy to store and put away for every day living. Which is a huge bonus for us because selling a house while working and raising three little boys, WOOF! Anything that eases the home selling process is a win for me.

Maintain an Organization Schedule
As mentioned previously, the hardest part of organizing our home for the big move is to maintain it during the home selling process. The de-cluttering and organization helps to cut down the amount of things to be put away. But, we also have a simple organization schedule to make sure that all of the things don’t pile up again.
While we don’t get everything cleaned up every day, because hello, mom life! We try our best to stick to our “pick-up” schedule and put things away regularly.
To be honest, it’s easier to stay organized once the house is simplified! Knowing that every thing has a place makes it easier to stay on top of putting things back even in the midst of every day parenting chaos.
