Do you have thick wavy hair like me? Sharing my tips for my hair wash schedule below!
Would you believe me if I told you this is third day hair? I swear, no lie, I washed my hair on Sunday. Yesterday, (Tuesday) I had the worst migraine and my hair was up in a loose top knot all day. The only things I did this morning was spritz a little dry shampoo and re-curl a few sections of hair. To say that I have a lion’s mane worth of hair is an understatement. While some days, I get annoyed with how much there is, I’m grateful for the ease of my every day hair care routine.
I know from talking with friends that have different hair textures that not everyone can go a few days without washing their hair. Color me geeked to say that I am able to get by with washing my hair only 2-3 times a week (or sometimes even less than that!).
A couple of weeks ago, I picked up the Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo & Conditioner to help with creating stronger hair and repairing my damaged ends. I’ve been on the hunt for an accessible and affordable volume shampoo and conditioner, so this was a great find! Because I have so much hair, I lose a lot of volume on top. With the Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo & Conditioner, I’m able to get the extra oomph that my hair needs to last a few days. Oh and I love the lavender scent of it, too.

I also picked up the Dove Dry Shampoo to add to my repertoire of products for easy hair care. Dry shampoo is L I F E and I especially like this one because it’s affordable without sacrificing quality. I also love the volume and fullness effect that the Dove Dry Shampoo adds to my second or third day hair.
Hair Wash Schedule for Thick Wavy Hair
When I shared about how I curl my hair, I received a few requests for my hair wash schedule for thick, wavy hair. So without further ado, here is what a typical week looks like for me:
-
Day 1: Shower at night, Air Dry Hair overnight
-
Day 2: Curl hair and wear it down/styled
-
Day 3: Dry shampoo, re-curl or throw it up in a top knot
-
Day 4: Dry shampoo, top knot or pony tail
-
Day 5: Dry shampoo, top or pony tail | Shower at night, Air Dry Hair overnight
-
Day 6: Curl hair and wear it down/styled
-
Day 7: Dry shampoo, re-curl or throw it up in a top knot
Keep in mind, I try to shower at night every night and obviously on gym days. On those nights, I throw my hair in a bun and wrap it in a towel or just wing it and hope it doesn’t get too wet. Another perk of my thick, wavy hair texture is that I can get away not having to wash it even after a workout. I don’t sweat much and typically not along my hairline, so air drying after the gym is fine, too.
Tell me below, how often do you wash your hair? What kind of hair texture do you have?
