As a mom of three little boys, the amount of laundry that piles up in our house is immeasurable. Couple that with the boys’ mild eczema and skin sensitivities, it is no exaggeration that laundry is the chore that never ends in my home.
All three of the boys have had mild eczema since their baby days. Baby B seems to have the worst eczema out of the three of them. My skin is also pretty sensitive and seems only to be getting worse with age. It’s been trial and error in figuring out what works for our family. But, here are my laundry tips for sensitive skin that keep our skin soft.
Running an Extra Rinse Cycle
One of the simplest laundry tips for sensitive skin is to run an extra rinse on each load. It only adds a little bit of extra time, but makes a huge difference in how clean the clothes are when they are rinsed twice..
Wash All Clothes In The Same Detergent
When A was a baby, I used a separate baby detergent for his clothes. But, it didn’t work well for his eczema symptoms. I’ve used all® free clear detergent for years and at the suggestion of our pediatrician, started to do all of our laundry with it. Two more baby boys later and we haven’t changed our laundry routine. It is my favorite detergent to use for all of our boys’ laundry and their skin sensitivity. I can see why it is the #1 recommended detergent brand by pediatricians. I love that all® free clear is hypoallergic and 100% free of perfumes and dyes. It’s such a reassurance to know that it works so well for those of us with sensitive skin.
I made a stop at our local Walmart with A last weekend to stock up on our go-to detergent. We also picked up a box of the all free clear dryer sheets. We found them easily on the grocery side of Walmart, in the detergent and home cleaner aisle.
Air Dry / Sun Dry
This is a recent change I made, but air drying our clothes makes it easier on our skin. It keeps our clothes for a longer time too, which is an added bonus. During the warmer months, I’ll be line drying in our backyard.
These are my tried and tested laundry tips for sensitive skin. It works for all of us in our home and I’ll continue to use our all free clear laundry detergent products to ensure a great wash for our (endless) laundry. Now if only I can get these boys to help me FOLD the laundry, the right way…
