Five Tips for Buying a Highback Booster Seat

Five Tips for Buying a Highback Booster Seat

As a Grandma-care family, we are frequently shuffling the kids back and forth between our car(s) and my mom’s mini-van. Since our new house won’t be ready at the start of the school year, we’ll be driving A to kindergarten in the fall. Depending on the day, all of us will be on rotation as far as school drop-off and pick-up. Although, I think I’ll be the lucky one to enjoy most days at the carpool pickup line in the afternoons.

With the big transition coming up, I’ve been on the hunt for a highback booster seat to fit our needs. When Graco sent us the TurboBooster® TakeAlong™ Highback Booster, I was impressed with all of the different features and its ease of use that works well for our on-the-go routine. Here are my five tips for buying a highback booster seat:

Weight Limits

As a mom of three (not so) little boys, this is one of the first things I notice. The Graco TurboBooster® TakeAlong Highback Booster is recommended for use with children that weight 40 – 100 lbs. A currently weighs 48 lbs., so this seat will be perfect as he grows over the next few years. It also features a one-hand, 6-position adjustable headrest that is easy to use and adapts for a growing child.

Portability

This is super important for us because we’re always between cars and constantly on the go. We also travel several times throughout the year, so I wanted a booster seat that travels easily and is compact and light. Depending on your needs, this can be a huge bonus (or even a necessity like it is for us!) as far as the ability to remove and install the booster seat easily in multiple cars. Some additional portability features in the Graco TurboBooster® TakeAlong™ Highback Booster are:

  • Highback mode: seat nests and has a handle for easy storage and carrying
  • Backless mode: folds via the FastAction™ Fold, becomes 50% smaller and has a carry bag

Transitions to Backless

A is older and bigger than most of his classmates. He’ll likely transition to a backless booster sooner than I plan, so I love that this seat easily transitions to a backless booster. Anything that saves me money and less gear is a win in my parenting book!

Safety

This booster seat has been rigorously crash tested to meet or exceed U.S. safety standards. I love how easy it is to use the open-loop seat belt guide so that I know I’m properly positioning the vehicle seat belt across his body.

Comfortability

The seat pad of the booster is comfortable and machine-washable. It has dual space saving cup holders for A’s ease of use. He loves riding in it and calls it his big boy seat for school.

With the transition to our new kindergarten schedule, I’m so glad that we found a booster seat that meets our needs for the whole family. Now if only I can make sure that the rest of the transition goes as smoothly!
