Summertime in Michigan

Woohoo, it’s officially summer! I’ve been enjoying the summer weather since I got home from the hospital with B, but it’s nice to welcome the official Michigan summer season with open arms.

Summer is one of my favorite seasons here in Michigan because it means taking our family for long weekends at the lake(s) up north! I love getting away from our daily grind of working, parenting, and keeping house with just a quick drive north to the many different lakes all over our state. Seriously, there’s nothing like Michigan summer at the lake.

My husband is off for a few weeks while I’m also on maternity leave this summer. One of the things we have on our “to-do list” is to take the boys up north and to spend time on the water enjoying one of our favorite pastimes as a family: boating!

We don’t own our own boat (yet), but we take full advantage of traveling to friends/family or renting a lake house whenever time permits. We also visit local metro and state parks that offer great boating activities. As the boys get older, we are making sure to spend lots of time at some of our favorite boating spots and lakes all over Michigan; Traverse City, Houghton Lake, Grand Haven to name a few.

I love using the Discover Boating website to find information on the local boat rentals and clubs using their Go Boating Today Tool. The website also has a ton of other resources like a Boat Loan Calculator and Boat Selector Tool which provides great information for people like us who are interested in purchasing a boat. There’s also information on local Youth Boating Programs and Boating Activities.

Some of my greatest memories of our dating years are weekends boating on the lake. D loves to water ski and I’ve attempted it a few times too. I’m still a novice, but we both love spending time both out on and in the water, which is great since we live in Michigan near so many different lakes!

I’m so excited to create new memories with the boys at some of our favorite boating spots and lakes all over our Great Lakes state. A is already asking about how to water ski and C loves watching the sailboats at our local metro park. I can’t wait to see my kids experience so many fun boating and water activities during our Michigan summer(s)!

We love Michigan summer! Do you like boating? What’s your favorite summertime activity?

Wow, sounds like so much fun. I’ve heard great things about Michigan summers. We’re in Az and boating is popular here too. Would love to own one some day too.

We love boating! We just sold our boat, my husband had it before we got married, because it wasn’t very family friendly. Hopefully we can get another next summer.

  5. Michigan is beautiful, I have a mom friend who lives in Michigan and she always posts pics of the lake and I can’t believe how much it looks like the ocean!’ (I live in FL so going to the beach is a regular thing).
I’d love to visit Michigan one day!
