Tips for Working Moms: How to Save Time in the AM

Need some tips for saving time in your busy morning routine? Read below on how I make my office days a bit easier!

I usually work from my home office, save for one day a week when I go into the office for team meetings. I’m grateful that I don’t have to stress about the morning hustle every day. Seriously, it’s one of the most rewarding perks of the work at home mom life. But, this past month, I was training new employees on our team and had a few more office days than my usual work at home schedule.

The minutes of the morning seem to fly by faster than any others throughout the day. Especially on my office days! Am I right, my fellow working moms? No matter what time I wake up, something always seems to come up to throw off our schedule by even just a few minutes. Since I have a 45-minute commute to drive less than 20 miles to my office (WOOF!), I like to make sure I have everything in check to save as much time as possible in the mornings.

One of my main night time routines is to make sure everyone is packed up and ready to go for the following day. I make sure A’s preschool bags/lunches are set, the coffee maker is ready and set to auto-brew (because HELLO! COFFEE IS MY LIFE!) and I pack my purse, lunch, and laptop bag. All of this saves SO much time in the mornings, without worrying about leaving anything behind at home. Because, yes mom brain (+ pregnancy brain) is an all too real thing around these parts.

Another way I save time in the morning is making sure all of us have a quick, easy breakfast snack to eat or drink. For myself, I make sure to grab a LALA yogurt smoothie. In addition to coffee, my LALA yogurt smoothie is my go-to for a morning snack. LALA Yogurt is a portable, on the go drinkable yogurt with 5+ grams of protein and comes in a variety of flavors. This drink is the perfect snack for working moms on the go, especially with warmer temps around the corner! My favorite is the wild strawberry. I love to drink it after preschool drop-off, during my long commute to work.

I buy my four packs of LALA Yogurt at our local Wal-Mart. You can find it easily in the dairy section. I love that it’s made from real fruit and is a great source of protein. It’s great not to have to worry about getting a serving of daily protein in early on in my day.

As a self-proclaimed member of Team Leggings as Pants, I don’t have to tell you twice that getting dressed in real people clothes is a hard thing for me to do on the daily. I try to get school outfits for A and work outfits for myself laid out at the start of the week. My laundry day is usually Sunday, so it’s easy to go through our clean clothes! He likes to help pick out his outfits and I love that I can just pick my work attire from the hanger on my office days. It makes it so much easier and I save time by not trying on a billion outfits, just to end up wearing the first thing I tried on!

  1. anything to help you get ready in the morning. I’m lucky and don’t have to deal with this as a working mom. I am out of the house long before the kids even get up, so it’s up to someone else. Else I think I would be late everyday to work!

I need to try that smoothie out! I feel like mornings are always hectic, trying to get myself dressed as well as my 3 kids. Coffee is a must and usually grab a Lara bar, or something else quick and easy.
