Photo Taking Tips: Pinterest Fail Mom Edition

Need some simple and easy photo taking tips? Read below for Pinterest Fail Mom proof, Instagram-worthy pics!

As many moms of our digital generation can attest to, I’ve been obsessed with taking photos of my kids since day 1! My obsession, however, does not necessarily translate into having talent or even an eye for photography. It’s just taken time and practice to learn how to capture photos that I like and enjoy. As a Pinterest Fail Mom, I’ve accepted my limits as to how far my creative eye can be trained. Nevertheless, I’ve picked a few tips that work easily and helps me capture some of my favorite moments.

A Quality SmartPhone Camera

When I received my Coolpad Conjr, I was so excited to try the high-quality camera that allows even a novice photographer like me, to capture sharp, crisp selfies and memories of life.

I’m a firm believer that a great smartphone camera is an essential part of a mom’s photo toolkit. With all of the things we have to hold with our hands, carrying around a full-size DSLR just doesn’t make sense for everyday use. And honestly, a lot of those candid moments? The moments that make you giggle or smile when you’re scrolling through your million and a half shots? Yea, those ones are usually captured on a phone camera.

Coolpad Conjr is built with a 13 MP Rear Camera + 8 MP FFC w/ Flash (and even has fun age recognition, pro/night mode capabilities!) I love that the high-quality camera makes it easy to capture easy snapshots of my kids on the go.

Natural Light is Your Friend

In addition to using a high-quality camera phone, I’ve learned that natural light makes all the difference between a good and bad photo. I’ll be the first to admit that my life isn’t all white, bright, and clean. But, a lot of my favorite shots are the ones I’ve been able to capture during daylight or outdoors. The brightness of the day just brings a clarity to the picture that you can’t get with artificial light.

White Backgrounds are Pretty

If you follow my Instagram, I’m sure you’ve seen my little obsession with coffee and flatlays. It’s an essential part of this mom’s life, so it’s naturally a part of my highlight reel! Flatlay or product shots always make for a good “Instagram-worthy” photo! And I’ve learned that a white surface or background can always make focal objects pop! It’s a super easy trick for non-pro photogs like me to create a crisp, clean photo!

Real Life Shots are Your Friend, too!

If all else fails, the candid shots are the best ones. I try my best to stick to the simple tips I mentioned above, but hey! sometimes, real life just isn’t Instagram-worthy. But, that doesn’t mean I won’t share it with my followers! I love that Instagram is what you make it and that I can curate the photos I love and want to share with the world.

My best tip is the VCSO app, for after the photo is taken! I don’t always have the best lighting so VCSO lightens and brightens my pics for me. 😀 I love these tips. Thank you for sharing.

Great tips! The natural light one is sooooo true, with whatever you are using to take pictures! I hate how early it gets dark in MI these days….makes picture taking hard some days 🙂

Really helpful tips, especially the one about the white background. Whenever I’m struggling with getting a shot to look decent, I put away my backdrops and shoot against a simple white desktop. Makes all the difference somedays.

These are great tips! I’m not sure I can offer any tips for moms taking photos of kids on the go other than to use natural light like you already stated. Sometimes kids are hard to click, so maybe a little bribe? Lol
