I don’t know about y’all, but our house is usually a state of messy. There are books and toys strewn around different rooms and crumbs and milk stains in the smallest of crevices throughout our furniture. I swear, my kids have an innate ability to make a mess out of nothing, some days. But, as much as they create messes, they LOVE to help with household chores. Don’t worry, I’m not talking about real work, but I’m a big believer in instilling the routine of doing chores and giving my kids responsibilities, even at a young age. We don’t force it, but we most definitely let them take the lead, whenever possible. Here are a few ways, our kids “help” around the house!

1.) Feeding the Dogs

Both of our boys love to fill up the doggy dishes at morning and at night. It’s a simple chore that they can feel responsible for and helps them to bond with their pups too. The dogs absolutely love when our boys give them their treats in the afternoon.

2.) Putting Away Dirty Clothes

We have a hamper in both of our kids’ rooms. Since the age of 15 months, both of them have loved to put their dirty clothes away in the hamper as we get ready for bath time. Mama isn’t complaining! I’ll take their help for as long as they want to do it!

3.) Setting the Table

Our four year old is great at setting the table for dinner. I’ve found that it helps him get excited about meal times too! It’s a total win in my book. He puts out the plates, silverware, and napkins. Sometimes, he’ll grab side dishes and also helps me get some of the meal set on the table. I’m sure in the coming months, his little brother will want to start helping in this department, too!

4.) Sweeping and Vacuuming

Throughout the holidays, we have a lot of friends and family over to our house. The great room is the place where we spend the most time. The holidays are all about the simple moments spent with loved ones, right? Our 10-15 minute cleanup with Bona products gives us time to focus on quality time spent with our family and friends.

Both of my kids are obsessed with their toy vacuum and our Bona Mop! I love using it on our hardwood floors! It’s so simple and easy to use that it makes the cleaning process so fast! A total win for moms. We use the dry, disposable dusting cloths first and then quickly switch to the wet cleaning pads to leave our floors super clean!

  18. It’s so good that you’re starting your little ones out early with house chores. It’s a great way to create a culture of responsibility and working together as a family. My teens have daily house duties and they include their little brother and sister, too. My little ones love helping with taking out the trash, vacuuming, and putting the dishes in the dish washer.

We had chores from an early age…nothing involving cleaners until we were probably 8. However, we did start doing laundry once we could reach the dials…just towels at first. Mom also made up games for cleaning, which made it a bit more interesting.
