Putting My Face On Every Day: 10 Minute Daily Makeup Routine

One of my newer resolutions is to make sure I change out of my pajamas and put my face on every day. As a work at home mom, it’s easy for me to roll out of my bed, log onto my laptop and easily spend a few hours without having looked in the mirror. While it wasn’t all the time, it was happening way too frequently for my comfort.

In the last few months, I’ve made it a point to “get ready,” and honestly, it’s made me feel great and gives me the extra push to be a little bit more productive. If I feel good, I do good; and the 10-15 minutes or so, I spend doing my hair and make-up (I usually shower at night after the gym) makes a huge difference in my mood!

10 Minute Daily Makeup Routine

I’ve gotten my every day beauty regiment down to ten minutes, maybe even five minutes! I was able to take these step-by-step shots as I was getting ready for a dentist appointment earlier this morning.

Step 1: Moisturizer & Foundation
I haven’t found a holy-grail moisturizer. As long as it’s light, not too strongly scented, and has a good, high SPF; I’m not picky when it comes to day cream. Right now, in my rotation is Sephora Collection Intensive Moisturizer Cream. Mine is a few months old and I think they just refreshed the packaging, but it’s same formula as the one I use. I’ll probably hold off on using it over the summer months, but it was great throughout this past winter and works right now as we transition to Spring weather.

As far as face foundation, I don’t use it! I’ve been using Missha’s Perfect Cover BB Cream for the last few years. It’s light, has SPF, and enough coverage to even out my skin tone without suffocating my skin. I’ve had friends or family bringing it back for me from their trips to Korea, but Amazon sells it for the same price!

For undereye cream, I’m currently rotating between Tarte’s Maracuja Concealer and Benefit’s Erase Paste. They’re both a cream based, thick texture and you only need to use a little bit for full coverage. Last month, I randomly learned that you should apply undereye concealer in a triangle shape underneath your eye. OMG where have I been?! It’s made SUCH a huge difference for dark circle coverage.

step1

Step 2: Eyebrow Filler
As you can see from my before shot, my eyebrows are pretty sparse. I actually use a professional grade art pencil as my shader/filler! It’s the most natural color to my dark brown/black eyebrows. If I need some shaping and contouring I use an old eyeliner pencil, I can’t even remember which brand it is!

step2

Step 3: Eyeliner & Mascara
Truth be told, I go through different phases for eyeliner. From gel liner, to liquid liner, to pencils – I’ve tried it all. I’ve like some, disliked others, but still haven’t found my go-to way of lining my eyes. Currently, I’m using Stila’s Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in the Triggerfish color. I only line the top of my eyes or I skip the liner altogether.

As for my lashes, the few that I do have are like treasured BFFs. I use my trusty Shu Uemura eyelash curler and DiorShow mascara. I’ve tried others and I actually have a Lancome and Stila pack waiting for me try, but DiorShow is my holy grail. I always keep coming back.

Step 4: Blush & Bronzer
NARS blush bronzer duo is Laguna/Orgasm is my go-to year round. I use the blush on my cheeks and bronzer at the top of my forehead and T-zone.

step3

Step 5: Touch-up and Refresh
I do a once-over, make sure everything is blended and then more times than not, re-curl my lashes one more time. I haven’t ventured too far into the lip world. Usually I go bare or wear chapstick. Sometimes if I’m feeling sassy, I’ll put on some tinted gloss. But it’s usually just a sample that I have in my pile of make up freebies. I do have one lipstick I purchased, but maybe I’ll save that one for another make-up post in the future.

That’s it for my daily “put my face on” routine! It took me way longer to write this post than to actually put my face on! 🙂

Great post. Never knew about the triangle concealer coverage. How brilliant! Makes me want to make some effort too. Maybe not this minute though as I lay in my PJs waiting to go pick up B from preschool. :p

  2. I love Nars Orgasm! It's the best. I'm at stay at home mom, too, and I always feel so much better and more productive if I put some effort into getting ready in the morning. Great post, mama!

  6. Those five to ten minutes for ourselves make all the difference in our day, don't they? Love the concealer trick – I never knew! My dark circles are terrible so I must give this one a try.

  7. I can so relate to this, it´s so easy to just not do it and start working but you´re right in that it does much such a difference if you do find those few minutes….

I don’t do much other than mascara and eyeshadow. The mascara I’m using now is awful. Will definitely try Dior next.

I would love to say I get up and put my face on everyday or at least every few days. But, alas, I don’t do it nearly add often as I would like. I have purchased things to make it easier but yet to even take them out of the package. I fail at the make-up aspect of being a woman. Yet I keep telling myself I will work on it ☺ I just don’t know when ????

You are so right, I am guilty of working all am and waiting and waiting to get ready for the day. It only takes a few minutes and it’s best to do right away but I always find myself procrastinating and then rushing to get ready. J need to get into the habit and do it right away.

I also think it’s important to get ready, even if you’re a work at home mom! I’m lucky to work from home myself, and I’m currently pregnant, so once baby comes, I know I’ll want to put in some extra effort in looking nice, even though I’m on my couch typing lol

I’ve been meaning to try a BB cream for a while…may have to give it a shot. For facial creams, I’ve been using the Rodan + Fields products for the last few months and I love it! (I don’t sell it, just a user.) I’ve always used Clarins, but switched about 4 months ago…R+F is light, has great SPF and is diminishing my flaws… 🙂
